SPARK announces keynote speaker for IGNITE! 2015
SPARK is pleased to announce that Chid Liberty of Liberty & Justice will be attending SPARK’s 3rd annual IGNITE! conference as a keynote speaker. As a successful Liberian entrepreneur Chid will provide invaluable insights on the conference’s theme ‘Doing Business in Fragile States’, bringing the same dynamic energy to the days’ events that has driven the success of his socially innovative enterprise.
In 2009 Chid returned to Liberia, his country of origin, after 28 years abroad and co-founded Liberty & Justice, Africa’s first Fair Trade apparel manufacturer which produces and exports goods for the global market. He was inspired by the Nobel Peace Prize winning Liberian Women’s Peace Movement and wanted to provide economic opportunities for internally displaced women, who are especially vulnerable to the economic exclusion caused by rampant unemployment levels in Liberia. Chid is currently overseeing the company’s rapid expansion in Liberia and regional neighbour Ghana. The organisation’s growth has enabled it to contribute towards academic scholarships and funding for sustainable development in the environment and health sectors. Liberty and Justice was awarded the 2011 SVN Innovation Award from Social Venture Network. Chid Liberty has been honoured as a Social Innovation Rockstar.
