Strengthening Jordan’s Business Support Ecosystem for a Greener Future

In Jordan, this work is led by the Center of Energy and Environmental Sustainability in the Industry at the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), which has delivered a comprehensive programme of training, coaching, and knowledge exchange throughout the year.

By equipping BSOs with practical tools, technical expertise, and policy knowledge, Green Forward is creating stronger support systems for Jordanian businesses while advancing the country’s transition towards a more competitive and sustainable green economy.

Building the capacity of Business Support Organisations

A key milestone in 2026 has been the implementation of a structured training programme designed specifically for 11 Jordanian Business Support Organisations, including advanced and emerging BSOs, alongside key ecosystem partners and stakeholders participating in Green Forward. The programme consists of four intensive training rounds, each spanning three days and addressing a different aspect of sustainability and green business development.

The first training, held from 12–14 May 2026, focused on green finance, introducing participants to sustainable financing mechanisms and practical approaches for supporting MSMEs in accessing green investment opportunities. The sessions combined technical knowledge with practical experiences shared by participating organisations already advancing green finance initiatives in Jordan. The second training, held from 2–4 June 2026, shifted attention to embedding sustainability into organisational services and governance. Through peer learning and case studies, participating BSOs explored how sustainability principles can be integrated into their operations and service portfolios, strengthening their ability to guide businesses through green transformation.

The third training, held from 23–25 June 2026, focused on the policy environment supporting Jordan’s green transition. Participants explored Jordan’s national green economy policies and the Jordan National Green Taxonomy. The programme also introduced methodologies for developing policy papers and practical recommendations that can support the continued development of an enabling environment for MSMEs and Business Support Organisations. The fourth and final training, held from 30 June–4 July 2026, focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles, carbon management, environmental certifications, and international sustainability frameworks and standards. The training combined technical learning with practical applications, equipping participating BSOs with approaches to assess organisational ESG readiness, develop sustainability roadmaps, measure carbon footprints, and design specialised ESG advisory services for MSMEs.

Beyond technical learning, the sessions created valuable opportunities for dialogue and collaboration among participating organisations, helping align priorities, identify practical challenges and opportunities, and strengthen the role of BSOs in communicating private sector needs and contributing to the effective implementation of green policies.

Advancing green finance through coaching and peer learning

To complement the training programme, the Jordan Chamber of Industry organised a two-day event in May 2026, bringing together Business Support Organisations, local experts, and sustainability stakeholders to deepen knowledge exchange and strengthen collaboration.

The first day focused on green finance and its role in supporting organisations and businesses throughout their sustainability journey. Participants explored financing opportunities available to green projects, startups, and SMEs, while discussing practical approaches for improving access to finance and implementing coaching plans tailored to participating organisations.

The second day featured a Peer Pod Learning Activity, providing a platform for organisations to exchange experiences, showcase successful sustainability initiatives, and learn from practical examples already being implemented in Jordan. Contributions from organisations including CEWAS Jordan, the German Jordanian University, Union Bank, and local Green Forward experts highlighted diverse approaches to advancing sustainability and the circular economy. These exchanges reinforced collaboration across Jordan’s business support ecosystem while encouraging organisations to adapt successful models within their own services.

Supporting Jordan’s green transition

Through targeted capacity building, expert coaching, peer learning, and stronger collaboration between public and private sector stakeholders, Green Forward is helping build a more resilient and sustainable business support ecosystem in Jordan.

By empowering Business Support Organisations with the knowledge, tools, and partnerships needed to better serve MSMEs, the programme is laying the foundations for greater adoption of sustainable business practices, improved access to green finance, and stronger policy engagement, contributing to Jordan’s long-term transition towards a greener and more inclusive economy.

Green Forward is a European Union-funded initiative implemented by a consortium of partners working across three complementary levels:

• Expertise France (at the macro level): leads the development of enabling green policies, legislation, and standards in close collaboration with national authorities and regional stakeholders.
• SPARK (at the Meso level): focuses on strengthening the capacity of Business Support Organisations (BSOs) to act as effective ecosystem enablers.
• UNIDO (at the micro level): supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through targeted technical assistance, promoting the adoption of circular economy practices and improving access to green finance.
