From self-doubt to software development: Qais’s journey with Palestine Launchpad with Google Programme

Qais Al-Hajabdullah is an Applied Computing graduate with a passion for software development, data analytics, and database systems. Like many recent graduates, his path from university into the technology sector was not always clear. Today, he is applying those skills as a full-stack development intern at GoIT, building the career he once doubted was possible.

A turning point for Qais came through the Palestine Launchpad with Google programme, delivered by Google, Udacity, and SPARK. He first heard about the programme from one of his university professors at a time when he wasn’t making the most of the opportunities around him.

“My professor saw potential in me and encouraged me to apply,” he recalls. “Looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made.”

Building skills and confidence

For Qais, the programme closed the gap between academic study and the expectations of the workplace. He already had a solid technical foundation, but he wanted real experience with projects, teamwork, and professional workflows, along with a clearer sense of what employers actually look for and value.

The programme delivered on both fronts. On the technical side, he strengthened his data analytics, problem-solving, and software development capabilities. Just as importantly, he developed the professional skills that graduates are often expected to have from day one.

“Learning how to present myself professionally and communicate effectively in workplace environments was especially valuable,” he says.

The newly gained skills and confidence made his move into work far smoother. Qais now works as an intern at GoIT on full-stack software development projects, using technologies such as Node.js, TypeScript, and SQL databases. “The most rewarding part has been seeing my work contribute to real projects,” he explains, “and gaining confidence in my ability to deliver solutions in a professional environment.”

Navigating career uncertainty and bridging the academic gap

Beyond the technical growth, the programme changed how Qais saw his own future. He is straightforward about the uncertainty he felt before joining, and how unclear he felt his path towards a career was.

There was a period when Qais wasn’t sure about his future, but that changed when he joined the programme.

“Through SPARK and the Palestine Launchpad with Google programme, I regained my confidence and found new opportunities to develop my skills, continue learning, and pursue a career in technology.”

His advice to other graduates hoping to enter the tech industry is grounded in that experience. “Stay curious, keep learning, and actively seek practical experience,” he says. “Don’t hesitate to apply for opportunities even if you don’t meet every requirement.” Adding that technical ability is only part of the picture, and that communication, teamwork, and perseverance matter just as much.

Most of all, Qais wants others to hold on to hope. “Every professional starts somewhere, and growth takes time,” he reflects. With the right support and determination, Qais believes it is possible to overcome challenges and create opportunities for yourself. His own journey, from self-doubt to a growing career in software development, is inspiring and proves that.
