Strengthening Market Actors and Communities

In South Sudan, there is limited expertise and experience of delivering market systems development (MSD) programming as funding has traditionally been more humanitarian-focused and markets are less mature than in neighbouring countries.
The locally-driven and private-sector led Strengthening Market Actors and Communities programme focuses on where market activity is most advanced, leverages local initiatives and acts as a catalyst in specific agribusinesses and supporting functions. SPARK aims to increase the income of smallholder farmers by working with the private sector to proactively identify opportunities to co-design competitive interventions.
Generating knowledge and best practices on the effective implementation of MSD approach in South Sudan will pave the way for more sustainable, inclusive initiatives within the humanitarian and development nexus.
