Come and talk with us about Business for Peace at Africaday!

SPARK is giving a talk on Business for Peace for Africaday 2014 on the 1st of November at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT). This year Africaday focuses on Democracy, Good Governance and Human Rights. Festivalgoers can expect informative talks, provocative debates and over 30 diverse workshops. During SPARK’s session, we will explore which role the private sector plays and can play in fragile and conflict-affected environments.

In fragile states international and local businesses can be crucial for stability and social rest. How can companies find a balance between operating a healthy business and acting responsibly towards their respective community and the environment? Are these actually contrasting goals? And can businesses stay politically neutral in often polarized and highly political situations? Our guest speakers for this workshop are Mark Richards (BHP Billiton Iron Ore Strategy and Development, with responsibilities for M&A, and concession and infrastructure negotiations in West Africa) and François Lenfant (independent consultant and researcher at University of Amsterdam; currently finishing his PhD on The role of business in peace and conflict processes in Central Africa).

We hope share this stimulating day with you. You can sign up for our workshop on www.afrikadag.nl.
