TurkeyTalks: YouTube sessions for youth during lockdown
With lockdowns easing across Turkey and around the world, we’re all acutely aware of the need to keep protecting the most vulnerable people from this deadly virus.
The refugee youth that SPARK supports in Turkey are among the most at-risk, so in order to provide them with key learning opportunities during the pandemic, we assessed their needs.
Almost 45% of refugee students asked for digital academic support, while a further 41% said they needed psychosocial support. With over 80% of the youth SPARK supports in Turkey having regular internet access, we aimed to meet their needs online.
The TurkeyTalks YouTube sessions were born. In cooperation with the European Union in Turkey, outstanding experts, including Serdar Kuzuloglu, Sinan Canan and Hale Caneroglu, were invited to speak on a wide range of topics. From the art of happiness to psychological resilience during COVID-19. Given the ever increasing digitisation of businesses during the pandemic, another session with Gaye Or, a leading business-owner in Turkey, focused on e-commerce.
The final session was led by the Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Christian Berger, who outlined the EU’s continued support for education of Syrian refugees in Turkey, despite the challenges faced by COVID-19.
