SPARK’s statement on escalations in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict

SPARK is deeply concerned by the dramatic escalations in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, and devastated by the extensive loss of civilian life, including young people. SPARK’s condolences are with all the families of all those impacted.

Since 2008, SPARK has been working with partners throughout Palestine – in the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem and the West Bank – to support the economic and skills development of young people throughout the Palestinian territories. To date, we have trained over 8,000 entrepreneurs in business skills, supporting the creation of over 200 new businesses and 680 new jobs.

Thankfully all of SPARK’s staff are safe but are understandably concerned for their families, friends and loved ones, as well as for what the future may hold if escalations continue. Our planned activities within Gaza have been paused given the circumstances and we continue to monitor the evolving situation and the impact on our partners throughout the Palestinian territories.

The ongoing violent conflict will have profound long-term consequences and impact on the livelihoods or income generating activities for thousands of people, particularly youth, women and refugees. SPARK is prepared to provide development assistance to those impacted, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable, following the cessation of the current crisis.
