By Jado Kabengera
“This award serves as a motivation to me and my team, it is also a sign that our work is not only important for us, but also for the development of our country”, said Mr. Musabyimana Emmanuel, winner of the ‘Best Farmer Award’ and Managing Director of Hinga Volcanoes Seed Promotion Company.
The 9th edition of the agricultural expo was held from the 5th to the 12th of June 2014 at Mulindi exhibition ground situated in Gasabo district, Kigali, Rwanda. Organized by the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources under the theme “Transforming Agriculture for shared prosperity and improved livelihoods”, it served as a platform for around 150 Rwandan farmers to exhibit and sell their products. Seminars, workshops and adverts on several topics also took place during the event. Apart from the farmers, the expo was also joined by international exhibitors, financial service providers, agriculture products and equipment manufacturers, insurance organizations and other interested local agencies.
4 SPARK beneficiaries were present at the fair, among which, Hinga Volcanies was recognized and awarded as the ‘Best Farmer’ by the Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources. Hinga Volcanoes Seed Promotion Company is a company experienced in growing, multiplying and distributing Agapanthus flower in and outside of Rwanda. The company also grows sweet potatoes, does research and multiplies seed varieties. The event led to some interesting partnerships between exhibitors and other organizations.
