Cooperative Support Programme (CSP)

In order to generate jobs in the agricultural sector and boost rural economic growth, the CSP built the capacity of 100 agricultural cooperatives working in maize, beans, Irish potato and horticulture. Contributing to food security and stability in Rwanda was the overall aim.

Intensive agribusiness training for smallholder farmers were provided on cooperative management, marketing and access to finance, for example. Proximity coaching and linking cooperatives to markets and finance transformed cooperatives into profit-making businesses for the economic and social benefit of members.

With such high demand for Agri Business Development Services (BDS) by cooperative members, an accredited Agri BDS course, mentorship, and network were established in addition to a business plan competition. This CSP has contributed to SPARK’s expertise in cooperative support in sub-Saharan Africa.
