Policy makers and students meet in ‘Higher Education In Emergencies’ event
Join the hybrid conference ‘Creating Opportunities through Learning – Higher Education in Emergencies’ by SPARK, the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis and the HOPES-LEB consortium.
With the mandate of the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis ending in December 2021, SPARK and the European HOPES-LEB consortium (currently formed by DAAD, Campus France and Nuffic, the German Jordanian University and its partner institutions) are organising the hybrid conference ‘Creating Opportunities through Learning – Higher Education in Emergencies.’

The conference will feature discussions among representatives of the European Union, ministries, embassies, higher education institutions, students and key institutional stakeholders involved in tertiary education in the context of the Syria Crisis. The event will serve as a forum for reflecting on lessons learnt throughout projects financed by the Trust Fund in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, and identify recommendations for upcoming interventions.
The event will see discussions by experts in the humanitarian field and policy making, namely Mrs. Claudia Miller, Manager of the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, Carsten Walbiner, Project Director of HOPES/HOPES-LEB and Yannick Du Pont, CEO of SPARK. Panellist participants from the European Parliament, French Ministry of Education and Research and academia will centre their debate around future possibilities and priorities for EU funding higher education projects. Event will feature perspectives provided by refugee students and alumni in a “Talk Show” panel, bringing their experiences and hopes to the forefront.
The event will take place in hybrid form (online and offline) on Tuesday, 30 November 2021, from 10:00 until 12:30 (CET) online and at the Thon Hotel EU in Brussels.
To participate online or attend the event, please register below (please note: you will be first directed to the DAAD portal to create an account allowing you access to the event and all relevant updates).
