We are excited to announce, that for a second year in a row, SPARK participated in Peace Day on September 21.  SPARK participated in Peace Day for a second year in a row and contributed to the Peace One Day initiative by coordinating a panel of Syrian activists and students in Aleppo to participate in a 24 hour Live Global Moment focused on the meaning of peace, with the theme “Who will you make peace with?”

What is Peace Day?

As part of the NGO Peace One Day Coalition, SPARK aims to draw attention to its role in peace building and sustainability.  Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day on 21 September. Throughout the years, millions of people have been active on Peace Day in every country of the world, and hundreds of organisations have carried out life-saving activities in areas of conflict.

Why is it important for SPARK?

At least 1.5 billion people live in conflict affected and fragile states and are currently in urgent need of sustainable peace.  As an organisation that works in post conflict socieites, we know that it is the youth that feel the aftermath of conflict greatest; as important as it is to gain peace, to sustain peace is an even greater feat.

SPARK joins Peace Day to recognise September 21st as a day of global unity and international cooperation towards encouraging organisations and individuals take specific actions to reduce violence around the them.

This year’s Peace Day theme is: Who Will You Make Peace With?
