Catch an episode of Sink or Swim

BSC Monrovia, SPARK, AAW Peace and BiD Network have come together to produce a dynamic new project, a TV show called “Sink or Swim” (SOS) to be broadcast at the beginning of May this year. Inspired by the Business Plan Competition organised by BSC Monrovia, SOS is an informative, yet entertaining TV show, showcasing emerging, ambitious young Liberian entrepreneurs in a ‘real world’ competitive setting where participants present their business proposals to a jury of experts. The competing entrepreneurs have one chance; a sink or swim moment to impress the judges and convince them that their business ideas are worth investing in. Will their business ideas flop or will their creativity carry them through? Only the judges can tell.

Sink or Swim’s main objective as a TV show is to represent Liberia’s youth, bringing to the fore front positive images of young people, developing and building up the private sector while creating jobs and empowering themselves through entrepreneurship. The show encourages the youth of Liberia to get creative, be proactive and fuel innovation. It demonstrates the importance of planning ahead and taking charge of your own future, exemplifying the rewards obtained from diligence, hard work and careful planning by giving them incentive and a platform to express themselves. By giving them the oppertunity to test the waters so to say, SOS also serves as a reality check for promising young entrepreneurs by highlighting the difficulties one may encounter in getting the initial boost or support needed to invest in ones business. By promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance to Liberia’s youth through a popular medium, SOS aims to encourage and stimulate new business start-ups and spin-offs throughout the country.

The set transforms into a real life, boardroom style panel setting where the chosen young Liberians will stand before a panel of experts to pitch their creative and innovative business ideas for possible investments in return. It’s up to the entrepreneurs to stand out with their business proposals, to excite and gain the interest of the judges. In turn, Sink or Swim also creates an outlet for young Liberians to discover the entrepreneur in them. A place where youth can realize their potential to become employment generators and drivers of progress. Through economic empowerment, the youth of Liberia can significantly impact the development of their country.

SOS is scheduled to release four episodes in total, one every Wednesday, every two weeks starting from June the 10th till July 22nd. Tune in on SPARK’s website or follow SPARK’s Facebook, Twitter and Youtube Channel (details below) to catch an episode of Sink or Swim.
